Positions Available at the School of Missions Mobilization On-Site Director The School of Missions Mobilization, a training community based in Matachi, Mexico, is accepting applications for the position of On-site Director. This position is open to qualified individuals who are committed to Christ and are passionate about mobilizing Latin Americans for cross-cultural missions. Matachi is a rural town, settled in the mounts of northern Mexico. It is about five hours outside of El Paso, Texas and two and a half hours from Chihuahua, Mexico. There are about 3,000 people in Matachi. Many of Matachi’s residents and neighbors are farmers. The town is small and surrounded by “ranchos” and acres of fields and apple orchards. The role of SMM director is a full time position requiring a minimum of a one year commitment. The SMM’s director(s) live on campus in housing provided by the school. This contributes to the community atmosphere and allows the directors to build closer relationships with the students and other staff members. SMM director applicants should have relevant experience in Christian ministry and be able to fill the professional and pastoral roles this job requires. It is not required that SMM directors speak Spanish but they are expected to engage in intensive study during their tenure. Responsibilities The On-Site Director of the School of Missions Mobilization will coordinate and supervise all of the daily operations including: Curriculum Development Staff Management and Leadership some Course Instruction Residential Life Administration General Administration Mentoring of Students and Staff The On-Site Director will provide top-level direction and supervision at the school in Matachi, Chihuahua, Mexico. Pastoral care, administrative leadership and teaching will be required in the position. This position reports to the director of Hillside Missions Organization. Curriculum Development The academic curriculum at the School of Mission Mobilization currently includes 18 different courses and a three month practicum. A large part of the director’s roe includes managing the school’s calendar of classes, coordinating the schedule of visiting teachers, and improving the repertoire of courses the school offers. SMM directors will work to fine-tune and enhance these courses through his/her own experience and expertise. Staff Management and Leadership The School of Missions Mobilization hosts a number of short-term teachers every semester. Classes are generally taught by visiting teachers, pastors, missionaries and other individuals in missions ministry. Additional staff members (interns, short-term workers) or full time teachers live on campus or within a very short distance and will rely on the director for project accountability, conflict resolution issues, and other pastoral care related needs. It is the director’s responsibility to provide leadership for the residents and the school and be proactive in fostering a Christian environment. SMM directors are also required to send regular updates to Hillside Missions Organization. Course Instruction In addition to managing the list of courses administratively, part of the director’s role includes teaching classes and providing additional lectures for the students. These courses are constructed based upon the director’s experience and preferences and are developed with the understanding that the students are training for cross-cultural missions. Residential Life Administration More than just a school, the SMM is a community. The first graduating class consisted of five students. The second generation of students is expected to begin classes in March 2009. We intentionally work to maintain a close-knit atmosphere on campus. Students and staff share the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning and sustaining the school (grounds, daily chores etc.) We are an international project and our students and staff come from several different countries. This provides a unique opportunity for everyone at the school to learn first-hand about cultural differences and how that affects everyday life. The director’s initiative in promoting real community is essential to the school’s success. General Administration The director is responsible for a number of logistical tasks, including: - Recording and managing each student’s financial information
- Keeping all students’/staff visa paperwork current
- Renewing legal documents required by the Mexican government
The long term goal of this project is that it be eventually run by the local church community. In the meantime, the school is administered through the partnership of Hillside Missions and a panel of leaders in northern Mexico. Interviews will be conducted by Hillside Missions Organization. Teachers The SMM offers a unique and exciting life experience for teachers to guide individuals in education and to make an impact in the world for Christ. The school has teaching opportunities anywhere from two weeks, a month, a semester or even year long commitments with us. All commitments can be adapted to fit the teacher’s schedules provided it benefits the school.The program consists of 2 years of residence for the students followed by a time of apprenticeship for all. Understanding that the student will be missionaries in another part of the world, the classes are structured, evaluated and applied to the students and their preparation for serving on the field. As an unpaid position of ministry, teachers are supported by self-raised funds. Room and board are provided without cost. Teachers should be qualified to give their course and recommendations are required. Applications should also present personal testimonies detailing your personal experience as a Christian, as well as personal beliefs and spiritual philosophies.
